The Fall 2009 session of the Nashville Music Business Camp (NMBC) will be held in Nashville, Tennessee, Thursday, October 15 through Saturday, October 17, 2009. Hosted in Music City, the three-day event will take place at one of the city’s most reputable songwriter’s rooms, The Listening Room.
Nashville Music Business Camp (sponsored by SAE Institute-Nashville) is an educational music workshop organized by a forum of industry leaders to offer aspiring artists, songwriters, musicians and persons interested in careers in the music industry an intimate learning experience. Based in Nashville, the camp is supported by Music Row movers and shakers who share their expertise and advice via lectures, panels and classes on the various areas and elements of the entertainment industry. The team of music professionals who created Nashville Music Business Camp believes that knowledge is the first step toward a successful music career. From eating healthy on the road to touching on contracts and entertainment law, the discussions aim to wholly prepare participants for everything the music business presents.
“SAE is very excited about the opportunities made possible by the NMBC. As an educational facility geared toward bringing people into the audio industry, we welcome the occasion to work with NMBC to provide this level of insider knowledge and insight into the music business,” said Chuck Moore, Director of SAE-Nashville.
Nashville Music Business Camp has confirmed speakers with a wide array of professional experiences and diverse industry responsibilities. The opening speaker will be Dave Pomeroy, President of AFM Local 257, Nashville Association of Musicians. Pomeroy will discuss pensions and pay scales in “Musicians Are Worldwide Providers of Music” followed by a question and answer discussion. In a landscape that is changing daily, Pomeroy will address making money and sustaining a career in the “new” music business.
Additional speakers that make up a sector of “who’s who” music industry veterans include: Kat Atwood (Publicity Director, Music City Media & Marketing), Sheila Shipley Biddy (artist manager and former MCA/DECCA executive), Shannon McCombs (national on-air personality), Bernard Porter (CEO of Porter-Gentry Productions and President of PCG Nashville), Suzanne Skinner (professional image consultant), Sheree Spoltore (Nashville Songwriters Association National Membership Director) and Robert Vonch III (owner of USIND Solutions). Special surprise guests are anticipated and will be announced in the coming weeks. Professional songwriter rounds (sponsored by Nashville Songwriters Association International) are also part of the schedule along with “In the Round” participation by attendees who will enjoy the opportunity to showcase their talents before the group of business executives.
“The Nashville Music Business Camp is a top-to-bottom music business curriculum from the best and the brightest veterans in our industry. It’s our way of sharing what we know with those who wish to prepare for what music-making is all about,” said Preshias Harris, organizer of NMBC. “I am proud to be a part of NMBC and look forward to the Fall session.”
Topics discussed at the camp will encompass styling and imaging, entertainment law, publicity, touring, booking, radio promotion, artist management and record production.
